Familiarisation with a medicine package

The goal of this assignment is to learn to understand the significance of the medicine package as a source of information from which you can find the information necessary for the correct use of the medicine.

Progress of the assignment

Phase 1.

Alternative 1. Go through the information found on the medicine package together. This can be done, for example, by dividing the pupils into small groups with each group having pupils who can read. First, the pupils examine the medicine packages and the information on them, after which the subject is discussed together with the entire class.

Alternative 2. You can also go through the information found on the medicine package guided by the teacher without group work. The teacher can bring over-the-counter medicine packages or print out a sample medicine package for the purpose of examining the package.

Phase 2.

Alternative 1. Following a preliminary familiarisation with the medicine package, the pupils draw a picture of the medicine package. They are to also mark information they remember finding on the medicine package in the picture. Go through the finished drawings together.

Alternative 2. Following a preliminary familiarisation with the medicine package, the teacher hands out a picture of a sample medicine package to each pupil. The pupils colour the information found on the package with different colours. Finally, the pupils may cut out the picture of the medicine package and paste it in their own notebooks. The medicine package can also be pasted on cardboard and folded into the shape of a real package.
